Quick Tips For Staying Confident This Summer
Summer is in full swing and with the weather heating up it’s important that your body confidence and self-esteem rises with it. Unfortunately, this isn’t always easy, thanks to our brains being bombarded with images of what we “should” look like everyday. But it can be done, by exercising your body and mind equally.
Staying confident in the summer is about your mentality above all else, and with this in mind, here are some quick tips…
Cut out all the media
When you spend a lot of time peering over pages of photoshopped models in swimwear, it can really mess with your perception of beauty and have a negative effect on your body confidence. It’s much better to cut out the media that makes you feel bad about yourself. As soon as you stop focusing on the fakeness, you can start growing your real self-confidence.
Help yourself with hindsight
Confidence truly is mind over matter, and casting your mind forwards can give you a much better perspective on the present. Think about yourself 20 years from now. Would you prefer to look back and think; “I wish I had been happier in my skin when I was younger”, or “I had the best time that summer, or at that party, or on that date.” It’s the latter right? Sometimes thinking with the benefit of hindsight can really help you to focus on really matters, right now.
Get your body moving
Getting some regular exercise, whether at the gym, at home or outside, is always going to make you feel better and more confident. However, it’s important that when you exercise, you’re doing it for fun as opposed to just doing it for weight loss etc. It’s never going to feel good to exercise if you don’t pick workouts that you actually enjoy doing. Choosing exercises that make you feel more embodied and comfortable in your skin, will release more endorphins and boost your happiness.
Remember there’s no such thing as perfection
Criticising yourself is a hard habit to break, and feeling body positive is not going to occur overnight. However, it really helps to remember that perfection is dull and subjective – if not impossible. Take some time to be kind to yourself, because being happy with your body doesn’t mean that everything is perfect.
It means choosing to embrace your imperfections, and removing those body negative words from your internal voice. Practice self compassion, by looking at yourself in the mirror and being grateful for the body you have.
Boost your confidence with a balanced diet
In order to give yourself a fighting chance at building your confidence and overcoming poor body image issues – you need to fuel your body with the right foods. This means eating meals that have a perfect balance of key nutrients; including fresh fruits, vegetables, healthy fats, whole grains, lean proteins, and plenty of vitamins and minerals.
