How to Stay On Track With Your Food Goals16 January 2019
Sticking to any food, diet, or meal prep plan can be tough, and eventually you might be tempted to just bail out altogether. Setting yourself food goals is great but even when you’re seeing signs of success in terms of your overall health and wellbeing, sometimes it can feel like too much hard work.
If you feel this way, then we wanted to put together some strategy tips to help you stay motivated and on track with your food goals…
Maintain a food journal
Sounds simple, but making the effort to write down in detail what you eat and when will actually help you to better stick to your daily food and calorie goals. Ideally you should document what you’ve eaten within 15 minutes of every meal. Get yourself a little notepad so that you can make notes easier when you need to.
Track your positive progress
Once you’ve got your food journal sorted, it’s important to stay consistent when keeping track of the progress you’re making and the results you’re seeing. You could also try creating a graph so that you can better see how successful you’ve been so far, and what your next goal is. If your aiming for some weight loss, then start weighing yourself more frequently as this can give you the motivational boost you need to continue.
Set yourself smaller goals as well
Long-term food targets and goals are great, but you’ll also need to set yourself smaller more manageable goals in order to keep yourself positive and more motivated. You could aim to eat more vegetables for the next couple of days, or get more exercise at least twice a week. Whatever your small goals are, the more you set yourself, the more you’ll see them making a huge difference in the long-term.
Miss out the take-outs
Healthy meal prep is one of the best ways to hit your food goals, whether you’re aiming for weight loss, muscle gain or you just want to maintain a healthy lifestyle. You might still be tempted by some fast food, but getting a sneaky take-away just twice a week can seriously increase your risk of abdominal obesity in both men and women. Stick to eating fresh, delicious meals to achieve the best results possible.
If your schedule is filling up, leaving you with no time to cook, then you could always take advantage of our healthy meal prep delivery service.
It’s not all about the food
Staying on track with your diet and food goals isn’t just about what you’re eating, you need to start looking after yourself in other aspects of your life too to stay motivated.
- Watch less television – sticking to the box increases your likelihood of being less active and snacking on junk food throughout the week.
- Don’t deny your cravings – if you always try to ignore your cravings then this could lead to a big binge later on. Instead plan out some controlled portions of your favourite foods in your journal.
- Prioritise your sleep – depriving yourself of quality sleep can seriously effect your food goals. You’ll feel hungrier and far less motivated when you get less shut-eye.
- Keep active – by getting more exercise or just being more physically active in general, you’ll give your overall mood a beneficial boost, helping you to stay motivated.
Remember to reward yourself for every goal that you achieve, and we don’t mean by consuming a big bowl of ice-cream! Instead think about other ways to reward yourself that don’t involve eating. Such as going out to see a show, spending an evening salsa dancing, or buying yourself a new book. Experiment a little to find the rewards that really work best for you.
